The next dozen

My friend, Lawrence, is helping me find my way in life. He recently gave me a creative homework assignment; Storyboard out the next 12 years. I thought it would be a breeze, but it turned out to be quite difficult. Hindered not only by my lack of drawing capabilities, I drew a mental blank as well for the greater part of the entire experiment. I did come away from this project with the understanding that I need to think more about my future.

Below are the storyboards. They didn't exactly turn out chronologically, like a real storyboard would. I drew whatever came to mind, whenever SOMETHING would come to mind. Some are fanciful wishes, others realistic goals. Others...well let's just say that I was using a green Crayola Twistable and they aren't erasable.

Visit back in a few days, I will have an important question to ask YOU, my knowledgeable viewers.

And there's more!

Xiaoshu and Ike

Enjoying a lemonaide atop Saturn Five yesterday evening. Xiaoshu and I met up and toured the International Space Flight Museum and he told me all about the rockets.

Onsies and atta'way

I like hanging out with friends. All the while editing this video, and afterwards when I've taken a peek at it, I can't help but laugh my head off!

All my friends are away (school, conflicting work schedules), so I cherish the time I get to spend with them.

I also have apparently lost what little French I learned at the beginning of the year.

OJ; What's next?

Who freaking cares?!!!
What I want to see is an interview with the freaking jury that set him free!!! - Drinking with Bob

New Addiction

I am addicted to Flip This House.

I realize it is only skewed reality, blurred together with fancy editing and suggestive soundtracks. I lived that twilight zone for 7 months in LA. I can't explain why I like it.

I also like Porter Airlines, with flights directly from Toronto Island Airport. I don't imagine I'll be using them any time soon, but the way they're bringing suave and sophistication back to flying is welcome. One day I'll enjoy it.

Bureaucratic Babble

After months of delaying, I finally pushed myself to look into getting a British passport. You will see my mind melt to mush in the mire of bureaucracy.

P.S. My dad isn't really an illegal alien. It was a dinnertime joke in 1991.

Brokeback Hamlet

One of my favorite things about shooting scripted stories with friends is the bloopers afterwards!? West Country may have been a 30 second commercial, but we really put our heart and soul, and a whole lot of laughing into this student production!

West Country

Based on a fictional soap opera styled after Shakespeare's play Hamlet, my sister was given a grade 12 English assignment; create a commercial advertising next week's episode. You can read the play using Google Books, if you like

I was glad to help with the technical side of things, but the creative side came entirely from her. We shot and edited this together in less than 1.5 days.

Leah's oddly exuberant face confuses some viewers at first, so I must explain that in the play, Ophelia goes crazy after Hamlet kills her father in a bid of mistaken identity and then drowns herself. West Country is a region in England, but not the setting of Hamlet, which took place almost entirely in Denmark. She chose it because it evoked thoughts of the wild west, while still European.

Any accents you hear are Australian.

Daylight Savings

Come out with me on my walk to work, and I'll show you a thing or two about dressing for magic hour.

At first I thought I would bike it.

Listen Up

Lately, lots of people have been asking me what music I'm listening to when they stop by my webcam. The answer; CBC Radio 3! It's my favorite online music station, boasting the best in 100% independent Canadian music.

Let me show you the best R3 has to offer by offering my playlist. READ MORE.

It's complicated because you can't just click on that link and have my music selection start to play. There's 1 more step. Across from my user name, "michael.tyas" you'll find this little button . Found it? Alright! Now you're listening to my selects! Don't forget to randomize the playlist for the full effect. In fact, I encourage you to begin your own playlist by simply logging in and adding tracks you enjoy. It's a great resource for fresh new sound, paid for in Canadian tax dollars.

While you're at it, rate my playlist!

Car Park

I finally parked my car at home, and won't be driving it in the near foreseeable future. I share some thoughts on the losses, and gains, of parking my car.

Another actual conversation

josh: my great dilemma (now that the voting is done) is whether I get briefs, boxer briefs, boxers, and what brand...
josh: we need an underwear election!

me: HA!

josh: fire the secretary of underwear defense!

Stripping Paint

It's early. Very early in the morning as I type this description. I was about to head to bed when I thought about how I hadn't checked out any videoblogs in the past while. In fact, I realized, I couldn't remember the last time that I had interacted in the videoblogging community at all! I've barely videoblogged this month, and have barely watched anything either.

I remembered that Ryanne and Jay had recently gone to India and so I visited Ryanne's website and scrolled down until I could remember the last video I had watched. I couldn't find any I had seen. "Has it really been this long," I wondered to myself. I clicked on a video...

Halloween

This was my really cool costume for Halloween. I put a lot of thought into it, and wanted to go subtle, in a way only the 50's have ever gone. Click for a close up!
