Amanda's My Winnipeg
Guy Madden, a Winnipegger and obscure film director, recently released a black and white docu-fantasy called "My Winnipeg." Filled with half truths and half lies, he shows the history of Winnipeg and his attempt to escape the city by 'filming himself out the place.'
Amanda is a sassy Seattelite who, around the same time as I, moved to Winnipeg and we became friends. She wanted to make a video for her parents birthdays (5 days apart), as she was unable to make it back to Seattle this year to celebrate.
I have wanted to make a video about my life in Winnipeg since I first moved here and fell in love with the city, but I never had the drive, the purpose, to follow through. Amanda gave me that purpose. Since we travel in similar circles, I feel like this is my video of Winnipeg, and my friends, to all of you. While the tour of her apartment isn't my own house, and her hot boyfriend isn't mine either, all of the places we show are special to me and leave me in awe of this great city. Call yourself Mom or call yourself Dad and enjoy Amanda's My Winnipeg.

This was awesome Michael! (And Amanda and Billy) I loved it through and through.
I'm glad you liked it! Whenever you miss Winnipeg, it's just a click away :)
What a great video message. Good job!
I realize that I'v never really seen much of Winnipeg. It seems nicer than I expected!
Okay I don't know where to start..
Brilliant.
The production was fab, the host adorable, the tour was splendid.
It is especially poignant because
A I am a Whateverpegger and these are my stomping grounds
B This summer I went on a road trip to the 'Couv and Lake Louise and Drumheller's Dinosaur Museum yada yada yada and the entire time I couldn't help but take notice of the Touristo factors...
for instance Granville Island Market was a template for The Forks (remarkably designated as The Fork en français, ever noticed that?) anyway, amidst the Gift Shops and Restaurants at Granville, the area is home to small factories and shops that give a gritty ambience..but there is no f*cking parking UGH!
pardon my french.
While the scenery (background) out West is undeniably stunning you soon realise that access to those sweeping Vistas is a challenge and virtually inaccessable without a great deal of planning..
whereas here in Whateverpeg everything is pretty much user friendly.
The plain truth of the matter is that those other Provinces are RICH, even our ugly twin sister Sasquatchewin is now a HAVE Province (Waaaa!) and we are totally a la carte..whatever will be will be...but whatEV!
Aside from a 2 year stint in Brandon, hotbed of iniquity, romance and intrigue, where I worked as a TV commercial producer back in the 80s, yes the 1980s, I have lived here all of my life.
I loved your tour and I know that Amanda's parents will treasure it.
Now do me!
I desperately need a Homo Escapeon version of My Whateverpeg.
Michael: It is a wonderful place to live, leave, and come back to!
Donnnn: thanks! I didn't know that about Granville market. I've been to B.C. once and had a blast, however. I think that Calgary has some great landscapes, but who wants to move to Calgary? Not I!
I'm back in school now, to I'm retiring from producing anyone else's Winnipeg till Christmas...
Fantastic video! You did such a great job on this project. I am a tad biased as the hostess is my sister and the boyfriend my future brother-in-law????? But even without the relations I would've loved it.
And yes, if anyone is curious, the Mom and Dad cried like little babies when they watched it.
Thoroughly enjoyed this glimpse into Winnepeg! Probably the most honest and personal travel-type of video I've seen all year. Was great reminiscing about the crazy river adventure, too! Ah, good memories.
Thanks for making this video, Michael. It's inspiring.
